The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych met the Chairman of Lithuanian Seim Irene Dyahutyenye.
Viktor Yanukovych, members of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, and heads of state institutions attended the Parliament’s opening session for the first time in five years.
At the meetings, held by President in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Shanghai, where the World Expo is taking place at the moment, the main theme was Ukraine's interest in Chinese investments. Viktor Yanukovych guaranteed Ukrainian political stability to investors and invited them to be in chief of Ukrainian economy. "Investing in Ukraine, you become a co-owner of its powerful potential – industrial, agricultural, scientific," he promised the businessmen in Hong Kong.
Ambitious plans’ success for Ukraine and China depends on its well-considered implementation model. The press-service reports the declaration of Viktor Yanukovych during negotiations with the PRC State Council Premier Wen Jiabao. According the Chinese Government Head, the most important outcome of the current Ukrainian-Chinese negotiations was a deep common understanding that the two parties should make great efforts to increase cooperation. In his view, collaboration development between the two countries in economic, investment, and agricultural areas is very important today.
The President and Prime Minister talked to pupils, while Vice Prime Ministers – to students. State leaders stressed that Ukraine cannot do without a new educated generation.
Integration into the European Union is a strategic goal for Ukraine. Our country is on the verge of making very important decisions. First of all, conclusion of the Association Agreement, we have been working on in cooperation with the EU, the President Victor Yanukovych emphasized at a joint press conference with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"I congratulate you and your coaches on this outstanding event. I wish you to improve your sports performance, enjoy it and confidently carry the flag of your homeland - Ukraine - in the world," the Head of State addressed the young Olympic team.
Ukrainian-German relations have been tense lately. Leaders of the both countries met only in international forums. The current one-day official visit was a sort of personal acquaintance of the Ukrainian head with the Government of Germany. Viktor Yanukovych met Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, Federal President Christian Wulff, Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, and representatives of political and business circles of Germany.
In the course of the telephone conversation between President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych and his Kazakh colleague Nursultan Nazarbayev, the leaders of both countries discussed prospects of deepening of bilateral relations, including expansion of trade and economic cooperation, joint action to overcome negative consequences of the global economic crisis and preparation of the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Ukraine, scheduled for September.
Prevention of fires that occur due to complicated weather conditions was the talking point of the discussion. The Head of State reminded that since the recent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council, three thousand fires, including 2200 forest fires, have occurred in Ukraine. The most critical situation is registered in south-eastern Ukraine: Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
